Chemical process system engineering (CPSE), by resorting to system science, chemical engineering principles, and information technology, involves tremendous scientific aspects in the design and operation of chemical processes as an integrated dynamic system. The integration addresses multiple scales: from modeling and control for product properties and functionalities at micro scale to unit operation simulation, control, and optimization at meso scale, and up to planning and scheduling for enterprise-wide optimization at macro scale. As one important driving force for future development of CPSE, the application of global optimization can not only improve product quality and process manufacturing efficiency, but also benefits industry operability, profitability, and environmental sustainability. Thus, in this workshop application papers offering insights into the interplay between global optimization theory and practice in CPSE are particularly encouraged. Topics of interest include (but are not limited to) global optimization studies on enterprise supply chain management, process synthesis, process control and operational optimization, product design and development, environmentally benign manufacturing, and design for sustainability.
